History
Mediterranean Sandwich Co. began as a small restaurant in Downtown Mobile, Alabama. The spark that launched the company came from a trip overseas. In the earlier part of 2009, the founder, Vlad Moldoveanu, reunited with his good friend from college, Alexandru Petrovici. They were trying to get a late-night gyro in Bucharest, Romania. It was dark, raining and the line of people wrapped around the building. Vlad couldn’t help but wonder, “What makes all those people wait in the rain? Is the food really that good?” Alex then replied: “It is the best Mediterranean food in town, and the only place open at this hour!”
At that moment Vlad knew there was an untapped potential for a late-night restaurant in Downtown Mobile. What followed were several years of quick expansion as the hard work, customer referrals and sound business principles began to pay off. Ever since the first location opened its doors, diners have been raving and critics agree. Nine years later, we now operate a local chain of four restaurants and are known as a leading quick-serve Mediterranean concept in Lower Alabama.
The Food
Based on the idea that people are more health conscious and open minded to try something new, we decided to offer our guests a healthy, fresh and unique sandwich alternative.
The concept is simple and has been used for more than 2000 years. Meats are placed on vertical rotisseries, slowly roasted to a golden brown and shaved off the rotating spit. This is the meat that all of our sandwiches start with. As an alternative to heavier high carb breads, we use pita bread for all sandwiches and wheat tortillas for our wraps. We also offer several delicious vegetarian and vegan options.
At Mediterranean Sandwich Co. we have a passion for culinary ingenuity and excellence. We have created an innovative menu of handcrafted gyros, stone-toasted flatbread paninis and signature wraps. We also offer fresh-cut salads, homemade soups and delicious orzo pastas. Our bold and unique flavors leave you craving more.
